| Blaine Avery's work can be found in the permanent collection of the Mint Museum, Charlotte NC. He apprenticed with well known potter Sid Oakley at Cedar Creek Gallery and Pottery in Creedmoor NC. His pots are heavily influenced by the folk art of several ancient cultures. Blaine's pieces combine traditional forms and decorations with an intuitive sense of the contemporary, a process that takes the pieces to a level beyond their given function. Drawing from early American folk art for inspiration, Blaine enhances his shapes, using slip-trailed patterns and hand painted slips and glazes. His work is a harmonious relationship of past and present, of traditional ideas and new expressions. Avery Potters and Tile Works also offers a series of handmade art tiles, as well as one-of-a-kind mosaics and wall pieces. Influenced by the architectural elements found on early twentieth-century terra cotta buildings, as well as the Art Nouveau period. They can be installed into walls and floors, or simply hung on the wall. The tiles are also available for installation, whether as accent pieces, or an entire custom creation. |
